Our stay at Lombok lasted about a week before we headed to Flores for a couple of weeks. In the end we stayed at the island of Java in the city of Jogjakarta and its surroundings. Our topic was "human capital development". Human capital development is very important in terms of improving the well-being and opportunities for a society and its people.

We were 19 students from University of Agder (UiA) travelling to Indonesia in January and February 2010 together with our professor, Stein Kristiansen. All of the students were attending the Development Studies Program. About us

Even though English is not widely spoken in Indonesia, it is still a country where travel and research is easy to do as long as you have good interpreters who know how to speak the Indonesian language and preferably some local dialects in the most remote areas. This is because the local people are very hospitable and ready to serve guests' needs whether it is concerning an interview on short notice or preparing food and accommodation.
